A coalition of more than 1,000 health professionals has urged the United Kingdom’s hospitals to make animal-people-free meals the standard. Led by the Plants First Healthcare group, the initiative advocates default vegan options, highlighting potential yearly savings of £74 million. The experts add that vegan diets significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, while encouraging healthier eating habits at home. Moreover, vegan meals could significantly lower the National Health Service’s carbon footprint, requiring 75% less land, with a 66% lower impact on biodiversity than non-vegan alternatives. The initiative was inspired by the success of a similar program in New York City, USA, which has served over 1.2 million vegan meals since 2022 with patient satisfaction above 90%. Bravo, United Kingdom. May all hospitals select vegan menus to improve patients’ well-being, in God’s boundless Protection.
