Three musicians from Israel, each with various backgrounds and versed in different instruments, aspired to create a new type of music. The result being a more spiritually inspired variety that speaks to the soul and touches the heart. Sharing the same lofty ideals, they formed the Faran Ensemble, hoping to transcend cultural boundaries with moving melodies of peace and harmony, inspired by the beautiful serenity of nature that surrounds us all. The members of the ensemble are Roy Smila, the kamancheh player, Rafael Ben-Zichry, the Daf player, and Gad Tidhar, the oud player. Their music combines a wide range of genres, such as Arabic and Turkish Makam, Azeri Mugam, Persian Dastgah, as well as western classical music and jazz. Now let’s listen to a piece called, “The Prophet of Emotion” from their second album, Fata Morgana, played in backdrop of the serene and majestic Shaharut desert sunrise.
