We are happy to continue our interview with Christopher Titmuss, as he shares his books. “And so sometimes, because the Buddha is kind of the founding Father, we might say, of the mindfulness world, so then as you just asked, ‘The Spiritual Roots of Mindfulness.’ And then another one shows ‘The Political Buddha,’ and the Buddha criticized the powerful, the royalty. And then another one, the Buddha speaks about love. So there’s ‘The Buddha of Love,’ on loving kindness, on compassion, on relationship of teachers to students.” Mr. Titmuss explains to us mindfulness. “We become more mindful, we become more aware of the treatment of animals, a major theme as well with the Buddha. We’re speaking about the experiments on animals, the factory farms, the destruction of their environment. So mindfulness is quite often for us the first step towards change. And one important feature of mindfulness obviously is the here and now. So, mindfulness is both outer, the world around, inner, experience right now, the past, and the relationship to the future.”

“As an activist – political, social, environmental activist – ‘The Green Buddha’ emerged. And my simple definition or statement of it was, life is enviro-mental. But what’s really needed is a change in the heart and mind of three really important groups of people. One is the politicians for sure. Secondly, is the influence of the corporate world, for sure. And thirdly, we, us, the consumers. Can we find a way to bring the dialogue of our inner life and the outer together, environmental, and put the priority on that?” “There’s a genuine potential to end all animal farming, all of it, and let the world of the farms in a way return to some sense of wilderness. And the research is already there.” “To go through this journey from birth till death is an extraordinary event. And some of us are in the winter of our life, but the life has been rich, and if we’re really quietly dedicated to staying awake and not sleepwalking through life, lots of joy, and happiness, and wellbeing can come.”
